Technical Information

|
All shared web hosting accounts are currently deployed in the Birmingham facility, details of which are provided below. Connectivity is delivered through three separate providers, enabling guaranteed redundancy and high availability.

 |
UUNET - 45 Mb per second
|
COLT is a European Tier 1 managed services and telecommunications provider. By leveraging the power of the world's first owned and managed, pan-European IP network and their state of the art Internet Solution Centre (ISC), COLT e-commerce services offer resilient, secure, high-speed Internet connectivity. Because they deploy multiple SDH fibre rings and an N+1 resilient network architecture, COLT services are always on.

NTL - 45 Mb per second
|
NTL are one of the United Kingdom's top communications providers, with a vast optical fibre network serving more than 76,000 businesses up and down the country. They are in a unique position to offer a resilient Internet based network. NTL's Leased Lines service (FibreLink) provides fast, reliable and secure digital connection for a broad range of inter-site business telecoms applications, with easy and affordable expansion to cope with the demands of a growing and changing business. FibreLink complies with relevant international standards to deliver robust, high quality solutions.

XO - 8 Mb per second
|
The XO Network spans the world, with network and peering arrangements second to none. They provide enhanced connectivity between Europe and the US. Their UK network connects directly into their own European network, with core routing centres in Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Stockholm located in major traffic exchange centres such as AMSiX in Amsterdam and Telehouse in Paris. Both of XO's London core routing centres connect into the US via two separately provisioned transatlantic links of up to STM-4 (622Mb/s) capacity. The core US backbone consists of dual, cross connected links between major network nodes, with a secondary backbone of routing points in major cities with dual connections into the key backbone.

Cisco 7206VXR
|
We use 3 Cisco 7206VXR routers to handle our traffic to COLT, XO and LINX. These powerful Enterprise level routers are Cisco's fastest single-processor router and provide industry-leading serviceability and manageability features. We don't believe in taking risks at Host Europe so we have deployed 3 separate Cisco 7206VXR routers.

Enterprise Alpine 3808
|
Voted 'Best of Show' at NetWorld we use 2 Enterprise Alpine 3808 Ethernet Service Provisioning Switches. This redundant power supply and hot swappable unit is the very latest from Extreme, both are linked via Gigabit Ethernet and offer support for Quality of Service (QOS), Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANS) and server load balancing.

What is BGP4 and do we use it?
BGP4 is a protocol that allows two (or more) Internet connections to work together. The two main advantages are that it offers a high level of redundancy. So if one line should fail, the other automatically takes over without the customer ever knowing there was a problem. This also improves the speed of connection to our servers for the end user, as BGP4 can calculate the best and fastest route to its destination and take that specific route.
Why we choose our bandwidth providers
All three providers have invested millions of pounds in building reliable, sophisticated and redundant networks. This allows us to offer high web site availability to our clients. XO deliver their bandwidth via the BT fibre network, with fibre entering our building at different points to offer high levels of redundancy. COLT and LINX are delivered on their own fibre based network, again entering the building at different points to increase redundancy.
How much bandwidth do we have?
Currently we have 98 Mb's per second of bandwidth. This is split between the three providers. We review and monitor our bandwidth 24 hours a day, and have the ability to increase it with ease. We are currently using less than 40% of our bandwidth, even at peak times. Webanet has more bandwidth then most of its competitors, and we are committed to maintaining this in the long term.
